Why can’t farmers offer lower prices to the public than middlemen?
1 Minute Read
Grocery stores buy MILLIONS of tons from farmers.
So they get massive VOLUME discounts.
Think about it:
If you buy just 1 roll of toilet paper, its going to be more expensive.
If you buy a 24 pack, you will get a better deal.
Unless the public can match what middleman purchase at once
it’s impossible for farmers to offer the same prices.
Economies of scale don’t apply yet.
But IMAGINE if we could all come together once a month
to buy directly from farmers, clearing out their stock.
That kind of collective buying could help lower prices...
That's what we are trying to do with the People's Market.
That will take time so we all need to be patient.
