🌱 Farming Innovation Hub

Real People. Real Teams. Real Solutions for Farmers.

💡 What is the Hub?

The Farming Innovation Hub is a hands-on community project where everyday people form action teams to solve real problems in BC’s food system.

We don’t wait for change — we create it.

Together, we’re building practical, farmer-approved solutions to make farming viable and local food more accessible.

🎯 What Are We Trying to Do?

🔹 Make farming viable again
🔹 Strengthen local food systems
🔹 Make produce more accessible and affordable
🔹 Connect the public to the people who grow their food

👥 Who Can Join?

Anyone with heart, hustle, and 3–6 hours a week.

No farming experience needed. Just a willingness to help.

Time Commitment

We ask for 3–6 hours per week, including:

  • 1 weekly team call
  • Team tasks or projects
  • Optional events or field visits

🧠 Our 4 Core Teams

1. 🛒 Market Team

This team creates new styles of farmers markets that haven’t been done before — designed to make local food more accessible and affordable.

You’ll help design and test market models like:

  • Costco-style bulk markets (large quantity, wholesale pricing)
  • Ugly produce markets (affordable, imperfect produce)
  • Pop-ups in underserved areas

You're inventing the next generation of local markets.

2. 🍽 Restaurant Team

This team connects farmers directly with restaurants.

You’ll help:

  • Understand restaurant needs and buying habits
  • Match them with local farmers
  • Simplify ordering, pickup, and communication

The goal: get more local food on local menus.

3. 📢 Public Team

This team makes farmers more visible and accessible to the public.

You’ll work on tools that bring local food to people’s fingertips, like:

  • An online directory of all local farmers
  • Easy sign-ups for local farm box subscriptions
  • Guides on how and where to buy local food

The goal: more convenience for the public, more customers for farmers.

4. 🤝 Farm Outreach Team

This team builds relationships directly with farmers.

You’ll:

  • Call or visit farmers to hear what they need
  • Share opportunities and programs
  • Ensure all solutions are grounded in real-world feedback
